Elizabeth "E.J." Jackson, 66, was born March 9, 1947 in Harlan, KY, and departed this life Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Good Samaritan-University of Kentucky Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mammie Jackson and Bailey Jackson and was preceded in death by six of her siblings: Harold Jackson, Frances Christian, Beulah Jackson, Lemuel Jackson, Ida Andrews, and Joe Mitchell Jackson. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Gethsemane Church of the Nazarene where the Elder Alfred Glasper is her pastor.
She was a 1965 graduate of Evarts High School, (Harlan, KY) and received certification from the Hartford Connecticut Institute of Living in 1965. Upon completion of her studies she served as a nurse's aide at Appalachian Regional Hospital (Harlan) and Good Samaritan Hospital (Lexington). She made a career change and served as an Executive Housekeeper at the Hyatt Hotel, Radisson Hotel, Doubletree Hotel, and retired from the Embassy Suites.
She leaves to cherish her memory three siblings: Bailey (Juanita) Jackson, Jr., (Dayton, OH), Charles (Virginia) Jackson, (Dayton, OH), Kathryn Greer, (Lexington, KY); godchildren: Melissa Hawkins and Dwaine Cotton; a loving companion: Lafayette Shackleford; best friend: Elizabeth Bailey; and a treasure trove of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 1pm at Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. T.H. Peoples, Jr., Pastor. Rev Alford G. Glasper, Pastor of Gethsemane Church of the Nazarene, will deliver the Eulogy. Visitation to begin at 11am. Hawkins-Taylor Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
