Shelby Jean Barnes

Shelby Jean (Conyer) Barnes, was the youngest of nine children born to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Carnes) Conyer. She was born March 3, 1937, in Pennington Gap, VA. She received her early education training in the Pennington Gap Public School System.

           Shelby relocated to Harlan after her marriage to Floyd Kenneth Barnes on September 9, 1955. Her life was selflessly and faithfully dedicated to loving and the nurturing of her five children and husband. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of Wells Chapel AME Zion in Pennington Gap, VA. She supported and served with her husband, Elder Barnes, at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ until her death on August 30, 2018 at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.

           Mourning her death and cherishing her loving memory are her husband,  Floyd K. Barnes; five children, Theresa J. Barnes,Consuela T. Edmond, Beverly C. McClenney, Kelvin L. Barnes and Floyd K. Barnes JR; sons-in-law, Anthony McClenney,Michael Evans; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Barnes. Five grandchildren, Stephan Barnes, Kesiha Barnes, Floyd K. Barnes III, Anthony McCleanny JR, and LaRon Jackson and one great-grandchild, Ayana Jackson. Also feeling the loss are a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

          She is preceded in death by her sisters, Vivian Conyer Brown, Willie Mae Conyer Mason, Mary Helen Conyer Burks, Catherine Parkey Conyer, Bernice Conyer Griffith, Viola Conyer, Dornella Conyer Henegar; her brother, Thomas Conyer and her grandson, Reginald K. Edmond, II.
