Dwight Ray Rhodes

Dwight Ray Rhodes, 62, of Harlan, passed from this life Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Harlan ARH Hospital following an illness. Ray was born October 15, 1951 in Harlan and had lived here all of his life. Ray was employed at the former Mack's Family Center at Baxter, and more recently with Don's Super Saver in Harlan. He had previously worked for Lee Steel Company and several construction jobs. Ray enjoyed fishing and following the Kentucky Wildcats. He played football in high school and always enjoyed watching a game on television.

Ray was a devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he also served as choir director.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodell Rhodes and Australia Sweatt Rhodes; three brothers, Dan, Gary and Albert Rhodes; and a sister, Vickie Wagner.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a daughter, Rakael (Farrow) Shurelds, of Lima, OH; a son, Tony Martize Farrow, of Lima, OH; three brothers, Joe Rhodes, Rodell Rhodes, Jr., and Mike Rhodes, all of Harlan; two sisters, Janet Rhodes, of Harlan; and Lori Bolton, of Arkansas; four grandchildren; his longtime companion, Lucinda Sanford; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and church family at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends after 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 15, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm at the church with Rev. Walter Garlington officiating. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery.
